PDP holster options: OWB

This PDP has become one of my favorite handguns in the time that I've had it. For those that don't know, it was one of the first guns we reviewed on the channel. I got it from Brownells, and I've done a number of videos on it to date, and I'll link all of those in the description. The last time you saw it on the channel, it was getting a set of tall sights to cowitness with the optic. After that video, the plan was to carry it all winter to see how having something so much bigger than my normal carry weapon would be like. To that end, I picked up an OWB holster for it.

This the Victoris holster from Slimfit holsters. I decided on it because I've had great experiences with Slimfit for other holsters, like this appendix rig for the MP45, and wanted to try an OWB rig from them too. One big benefit to them is that they offer light bearing compatibility with a lot of weaponlight brands, and are one of the only companies that offer support for Olights. I chose an OWB holster because I almost always carry OWB in the winter; we get pretty cold and snowy where I am so I'm always wearing a big puffy jacket when I'm outside, and that makes it easy to conceal even when carrying outside the wasitband.

I got it in basic black Kydex, with 1.5" belt loops and some colored finishing washers since they were a free upgrade. As far as options go, I chose to have it optic cut and to have an open muzzle end. I did this because the PDP will always be wearing an optic, and I wanted the option to add a threaded barrel later on. I paid 65 bucks for this rig, plus shipping which I think was like 10 bucks.

The holster itself is well-made, with good quality thick Kydex on the front and the back. Cuts are clean, and the edges have all been finished well. The hardware is all solid, and has held up well over the few months I've used it. It fits the weapon well, and does a good job covering the trigger guard as you'd expect it to. The weapon fits well, and there's plenty of room for the optic and the threaded barrel like I wanted.

I do have a few nits to pick, though. The first of these is the retention. While the clamping force itself is good, I miss the solid "click" that I get with the MP45 in their appendix rig. I understand that the different type of holster might change this, but at the same time it's the same light and the retention looks like it indexes off of the QD latch of the light in both models, so I feel like it should be more tactile.

The second thing I noticed is that there is a lot of extra space where the holster covers the head of the light. Its an extra 3/4 of an inch, maybe more. I'm not sure why that's there, and it doesn't really affect performance, but it is noticable.

The last thing I want to talk about is the range of adjustment for cant or carry angle. Theres only three holes on one side and only two on the other side, which means that I can't get this to ride as canted as I would like to. This made adjusting to the holster and practicing with it a bit harder than necessary, since I had to reprogram my brain to make sure the weapon was more vertical than I'm used to when reholstering. I really wish that this had at least one more level of adjustment available, at least on one side.

Overall I think that this is a decent holster, but I don't think that it quite lived up to the expectations that I had for it after my experience with my appendix rig from the same company. I'll keep using it for range days and stuff, but I think I'll probably try to find a different holster for next winter.

So those are my thoughts on the Victoris holster for the PDP with an Olight PL2. If you're interested in one, you can pick one up from Slimfit Holsters
